Neon Light vs. LED Light: Features and Differences

by KTP PRESS
neon led

What is the difference between neon lights and LED lights? Which system is best for your lighting? Let's check out the features of both together.

Let's start with neon : neon tubes, also called fluorescent , are made up of a sealed cylindrical glass tube, inside which is contained a drop of mercury and a noble gas at low pressure. At the ends of the tube are installed two electrodes that, once crossed by electricity, produce the electrons necessary to allow the noble gas (in this case Neon) to emit ultraviolet light , in turn necessary to stimulate the fluorescent material to illuminate, emitting the light we see.

A different discussion must be made for LED lamps , composed of plastic tubes that do not contain mercury or noble gases. LED tubes do not produce heat when switched on, as happens with neon lamps, and again unlike the latter, they do not emit harmful substances and do not require maintenance. LED tubes have a lower luminous flux than neon tubes, and for this reason allow for lower electricity consumption .

Until recently, neon tubes were all the rage in offices, warehouses, clubs, and even homes, the undisputed protagonists of the lighting world; however, in recent years, new technologies on the market have been leading to a proper replacement of systems, to make them less dangerous for health and to guarantee a longer life at a lower cost. Among the new developments, Neon Led technology is the most popular, and in Rome the experts in the sector are the guys from Neon Flex Mood. The young Roman company that produces neon lamps for lighting and furniture uses Neon Flex Led technology, which combines the shape and power of the neon tube with the practicality and safety of the LED tube.
