When we talk about lighting, we often leave out outdoor spaces such as gardens, balconies or terraces , but outdoor lighting can really be the ace in the hole to furnish your home or business, and give the rooms a whole new personality. Let's see in this post some rules and tips to best illuminate outdoor spaces and gardens.
If you don't have much space and your garden is relatively small or more than a garden we are talking about a terrace or a large balcony, you can think of many solutions based on the space available. The first rule to keep in mind is to choose lighting that is both functional and scenographic , able to furnish by creating an intimate atmosphere and enhancing the space. LED lamps are perfect in this case, which have a low energy impact and a long life.
Thanks to LED lamps you can enhance the most beautiful corners of your small garden by illuminating them, and in the same way you can hide the less pleasant areas by leaving them “in the dark”; even small spaces can be strategically illuminated, and in this case it takes very little to renovate them. Never use direct or dazzling lights if you want to obtain an intimate and soft atmosphere, and always choose warm colors to highlight the green spaces.
If you have a very large garden, with a path or a walkway of tiles, hedges, small trees or tall plants, lighting plays a very important role and the solutions to adopt to "light up" the area multiply. First advice, in the case of paths or tiles that delimit passages, is to illuminate them starting from the bottom: LED lights applied directly to the edge of the tiles, or light poles that delimit the path will create a fairy-tale effect and attract attention.
The first element to take into consideration is the trees or shrubs present in the garden: by illuminating the branches of the trees or delimiting the flowerbeds and plants in the garden with LED lights or spotlights, the effect that is created is that of an area clearly divided into " sectors ", and in addition to the very powerful scenographic effect, a more intimate atmosphere will be obtained even in the case of large plots of land. Furthermore, enriching the plants or bushes with small ornamental lights will make the entire garden more interesting, the important thing is that the light always comes from top to bottom in the case of medium-height shrubs or low plants; on the contrary, in the case of large trees or small flowerbeds, it is better to opt for lights that go from bottom to top to give greater emphasis to the colors of the garden.
Another element not to be underestimated is the presence of walls or hedges that naturally divide the spaces; in this case, you can install LED strips on the base of the wall or recessed spotlights inserted just under the wall itself, to highlight its perimeter with light and emphasize the space. A small tip that is essential for a satisfactory visual effect is to hide the light sources as much as possible: it is better to position any spotlights behind the hedges, and in the case of important lamps, position them behind other furnishing accessories to obtain soft lights that seem to come directly from the sky.
